The Meditations of Tagore - Gitanjali, is a translation of Rabindranath Tagore's Gitanjali into Tamil by respected elder brother A.P. Durai over many years carefully and meticulously translated to preserve the message. This little volume is not about Tagore’s achievements in different fields, which of course, are well recognised and admired. It is also not about the poems of Gitanjali as literature for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in the year 1913. But here is an attempt to look at Gitanjali from the view point of its spiritual flavour and its mystic idiom and use of allegory; its subtle appeal to the Soul in search of its God, the mystical romance of the dual entities of Jeevatma and the Paramatma, the Creator and His creation, God and His devotee, the Guru and the Disciple. It is the ‘pre-union’ phase where the Divine and the soul seem to chase each other resulting in exuberance of the human Spirit breaking out in such poetry.
